Bird of Paradise plants are a marvelous combination of a distinctive shape and brilliant colours in flower!!

The Origin & Species: Native to South Africa , the bird of paradise is a large tropical herb that is a member of Musaceae or the banana family. The scientific name is Strelitzia reginae. The bird-of-paradise is classified in the division Magnoliophyta, class Liliopsida, and order Zingiberales.

The Bird of Paradise flower is a spectacular blossom. Long stemmed flowers emerge from green boat-shaped bracts which are bordered in red or purple. The numerous pointed petals of brilliant orange are contrasted with an arrow-shaped tongue of vivid blue and which looks like a bird flying. Some species have white and blue also.

The passion fruit is a vigorous, climbing vine that clings by tendrils to almost any support. It can grow 15 to 20 ft. per year once established and must have strong support. It is generally short-lived (5 to 7 years).
